Just a bit of a distraction.

Did I mention I went to Vancouver to work on the Olympics.  Just a bit of a distraction from my training. It was great to see an athletic competition of that magnitude. I was working as part of the OBS Curling coverage that saw the Canadian women win silver and the Canadian men win gold.  I also had a chance to witness the Canadian ice dancing pair win gold.

What really struck me was that the difference between winning and coming in second is such a narrow margin, such a fraction of a moment, that it really shows that all the training, practice and preparation is necessary in order to finish first. The energy of all the people in the venue at an Olympic event is tremendous.  I want to bottle it and bring it out whenever I need it.

While I was in Vancouver I worked some crazy hours and l only managed to get in a run one day.
It was tricky to run in Vancouver because of my schedule and, when I did get a chance, I found it tough to figure out a good route because of all the traffic lights. I am sure if I had more time I could have found a better place to run.

Now back home for a few days and I have jumped back into training right away. I started with a spin on Thursday and again today where a big group of us got together at the school gym. We did a nasty 90 min ride that included a heart rate climb at the end that raised my heart rate to 180 bpm for the final 2 minutes.  We followed that up with a rigorous 30 min yoga session. It feels great to be training again.

This year I hope to make a big improvement.

Yesterday was another day working for at the hockey arena. It is great that I am able to get in a run during my lunch break. 5KM or 15 laps around the top level concourse.  I get a few of the concession workers are up there as I do my run. I tend to hello to the same 3 people every time I run past, they smile and nod back.
I registered for the 26th Coronation Subway Triathlon. It will take place in Edmonton on May 30th and will require a 1KM swim, 26KM bike and a 8KM run.
I did ths event last year as my first ever tri event and it went pretty good. I had a pretty tough time in the pool so this year I hope to make a big improvement.  I think a lot of my team members will be taking part in this race.

Here is a photo of the concourse just before the game.
